Indradyumna Tank Puri is consider as one Tirtha among Pancha Tirtha in Puri. Pancha Tirtha means five sacred place. Indradyumna Tank, Markandeya Tank, Swetaganga, Sea and RohiniKunda are considered as five Tirtha in Puri.
It is said that, pilgrims gets salvation after bathing in the Pancha Tirtha and visiting Lord Jagannath. Also said that visit to Puri is incomplete without bathing in the Pancha Tirtha.
King Indradyumna performed as Aswamedh Yajna and distributed alms and donated cows in huge numbers to Brahmins here. Legends also say a huge cavity on the surface of the land was created by the cow feet which was later transformed into a huge pond and it is considered one among the “Pancha Tirtha” of the Srikshetra. Devotees perform tarpan, sradha for their ancestors and take holy bath here.
