Kuruma a small village located in Puri district of Odisha. This place is located exactly at a distance of 7km from Konark on the Konark-Kakatpur road.
Once this site where flourished the Buddhist monastery. Due to its historical significance this is considered as a important tourist place in Konark. The origin of the site is between 8th-9th century AD.

Kuruma is considered as only a Buddhist Monastery lies in the Puri District in Odisha. According to legend Kuruma Buddhist Vihar might have been just on the coast in the past.
Travelers can find several Buddhist texts from Asoka, Ceylon and writings of the Chinese traveler Hieun Tsang who was known as Xuanzang here.
Here is a large tank (Dharma Pokhari) at one end of the Kuruma village. A stone slab containing the beautiful image of Lord Buddha was found on the bank of a tank here. A couple of more stone statues were also found near this tank. Those images are identified as Yamaare and Heruka.
If you are staying in Puri it is best to visit Kuruma with the Konark Sun Temple. Booking a taxi/car from Puri is the best potion for this visit.
