Chandana Yatra :

During this Chandana Yatra or Chandan festival replica deity of Jagannath (Madan Mohan) is brought on an annual basis with Rama, Krishna, Laxmi and Saraswati(Biswadhatri).

All the big and small deities are also taken out of their temples and floated in the pious water of this lake. This is call “Bhaunri Yatra“. The deities are applied with sandal mixed water (sandal paste ) and then washed with the sacred water of this tank.

This ritual is organized in the Baishaki month of Hindu calendar. Chandan yatra devided into two periods i.e, Bahar chandan or outer chandan(21 days) and Bhitar chandan or inner chandan (21 days).

Bahara Chandana starts from Akshaya Tritiya and continues for 21 days. Construction of the chariots for the Ratha Yatra festival starts from Akshaya Tritiya. The last 21 days include rituals held inside the temple itself known as Bahar chandan or outer chandan.
