Syamakali Temple – Syamakali Temple is one of the famous Goddesses of Puri and is the preceding deity for the Gajapati Maharaja (King) of Puri. According to the royal custom of Puri, the new king after his coronation, first visits here and worship ShyamaKali.
This temple is a Sakta temple because Syamakali is also called as Kali, one avatar (incarnations) of Goddess Durga. Other images like Vimala and Sarbamangala carved on the left side of Syamakali.

This temple is located outside of Jagannath temple and well known as a Sakta temple (Kali Temple) by local people. Exact location of the temple is Bali Sahi. While going to Swargadwar (Sea beach) from Singhadwar(Lion’s Gate) of Lord Jagannath Temple, there is a diversion to Bali Sahi. Moving forward in this lane you can reach Sayamakali Chowk and the temple is situated on the right side of the Syamakali lane, leading from Sayamakali Chowk to Tiadisahi.
